Christy Vaughn, LPC

Hello, and welcome to our practice. My name is Christy Vaughn, and I'd like to share a bit about myself. I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Behavioral Science from Bluefield University and a Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia. My experience includes working with individuals and their families. I use various person-centered therapeutic methods to provide treatment for adolescents and adults. I strive to create a warm, friendly, non-judgmental atmosphere for my clients. I particularly enjoy working with individuals dealing with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, and adjustment concerns. In my practice, I often work with my "Co-therapist," Sully. Sully is a Lapom (Lhaso Apso/Pomeranian mix). Sully has been part of our team since 2020 and enjoys providing support and humor to our sessions. I have been a part of the North Roanoke community for 30 years. I am married and have raised four sons with my husband. We have also gained four daughters and seven beautiful grandchildren. We are animal lovers and currently have three dogs and a cat. The location of my practice near Tinker Creek reflects my love for the water.

Do you ever feel "stuck" in a pattern that inevitably leads to not getting what you want in life? Do the messages you carry from the past keep getting in your way? Are you holding onto resentments and negative feelings that prevent you from moving forward? Are you confused about how to make important decisions? If any of these things are a current struggle for you, then let's talk! I earned a B.S. in Psychology (2003) and an M.S.Ed. in Counseling (2005) from Old Dominion University. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2008 and a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider since 2009. I have worked extensively in community mental health and in private practice. I have training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) used for the treatment of trauma and PTSD, along with training in Gottman Method Couples Counseling to address marital and relationship issues. I utilize Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to address a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. Additionally, I have a special interest in spiritual issues and men’s issues. I enjoy working with adults, couples, and groups. I also find great satisfaction in partnering with family members / friends who have a loved one who suffers from mental illness to help them cope. I would love the opportunity to walk the journey with you. Please reach out to Tinker Creek Creative Counseling and let’s discuss how we can help you reach your goals.

Johnna Wilson, MA

My journey towards becoming a counselor began nearly 15 years ago in child and family services, working closely with parents as they grew their family through adoption. In recent years I chose to pursue a career in mental health to continue to serve individuals and families. My training over the years has focused on childhood trauma and attachment as well as grief and loss issues which impact development and overall functioning throughout adolescence and into adulthood. What happened to you as a child matters! I am currently a resident in counseling working towards professional licensure and accepting teens and adults as clients. I have worked with individuals who have faced a myriad of challenges and traumatic experiences which have left them questioning their purpose in life, their faith, and their relationships with friends and family. Whether it be from such experiences as divorce, abuse, grief, or chronic anxiety, these all have a way of catapulting individuals into a struggle with their spiritual, emotional, and mental health. It’s important to know that while “you can’t go back and change the beginning, you can start where you are change the ending” (C.S. Lewis).
